Apprentice to 40 Years Later!

20 Mar 2019

Pat McKay, General Plant Manager, for FKL Plant was recently recognised for 40 years’ service. Pat began his career with Charles Brand Ltd, on the 21st of October 1978 as an Apprentice and has through the years held a variety of roles before taking up the role of General Plant Manager.

Pat remembers clearly his very first day with the company, “I vividly remember driving through the gates of our Plant depot in Sydenham Road where there were an assortment of large cranes, other plant and an abundance of steel materials stored. This also included the facility for manufacturing precast piles. As I entered reception there was only a hatch to speak to the receptionist! I have thoroughly enjoyed my career so far, and I am proud to be part of an industry and a company which has given me the opportunity to allow me to progress throughout my career. It is a really great place to work”.

Pat has worked on several projects throughout his 40 years, perhaps one of the most memorable was preparing the marine vessels for a 3,000 mile international tow across the Great Barrier Reef, one of the most treacherous stretches of water in the world, to a project in the Solomon Islands.

A celebratory dinner was organised for Pat and his family together with close colleagues, past and present, where Michael Lagan presented Pat with a travel voucher and additional days leave for his length of service and dedication to the company over the past 40 years.

Cheers to Pat!
