25 Apr 2014

UK based Hochtief Construction started work in 2013 on a £20m project to replace thewooden Pont Briwet rail bridgenear Porthmadog in North Wales with a new viaduct. Dew Piling was awarded the contract for the installation and extraction of 6 No cofferdams in total using 350 tonnes of 14 meter long AZ28-700 sheet piles.

The works were carried out in wind and flood conditions not experienced in this remote area for many years. Despite design changes and delays due to erosion of the existing river bank Dew will be completing this 4 month contract in April 2014 with a final value of approximately £350,000.

The image is of the Lagan 180 ton crane being moved onto site to install the final two cofferdams in the estuary inside which the new viaduct bridge piers will be constructed.
