07 Aug 2014

The Lagan Building and Airports Team, part of the Lagan Construction Group, have recently completed works on a state of the art private jet hangar at Bristol Airport. The hangar will house a private jet and 3 helicopters. Both Lagan Building and Airports Team worked together to successfully deliver both airside and landside works.

The hanger is 2,800 m² and consists of structural steel on pad foundations with PQ concrete floor, profiled metal cladding and standing seam roof.

Internally, an internal office space with conference room, engineers workshops, pilots briefing room, full floor to ceiling tiled toilets and shower room, stainless steel kitchens and bespoke powder coated spiral staircase with stainless steel hand rail and large reception room all fitted with bespoke personnel doors.

External works consisted of construction of a new RVP emergency access road with new street lighting and enclosed by a close board fence to separate from the sliver zone car park, while maintaining current emergency access and no disturbance to current residents i.e. Bristol Flying Centre, Bristol & Wessex Flying Club and Western Power Distribution.

Three new High Mast Lights were installed on a new apron and apron infill consisting of PQ concrete, Marshal Asphalt and Tarmacadam Dry.

These works were carried out within a live airport environment and included the relocation of 2 sub-stations. These services operate the day to day running of the airport which could not be interrupted.

The contract was carried out within an impressive 6 month period.

“We are delighted to have completed this private jet hangar for our client safely, on budget and on time. This truly is a state of the art private jet hangar.”
Tom O’Hare, Building Director for Lagan Construction Group

The teams have since been awarded another airport contract for a terminal refurbishment and runway resurfacing works at St Mary’s Airport in the Isle of Scilly, valued at £6.3 million. Terminal works include the remodel of the existing terminal including demolition and new build works. The project will create a new departures and arrivals halls, check-in area, staff facilities and new restaurant. The existing terminal will remain live during full duration of works requiring the team to develop a phasing strategy to facilitate access for passengers and staff.

The runway resurfacing and reconstruction works includes the upgrading of airfield ground lighting, drainage and apron reconstruction. In addition construction of a car park will form part of the works as well as road resurfacing works.
